Overview

Flinn monitors official sources to keep normative documents up to date. If an official source changes the way it publishes its documents, updates from that point onwards might not be detected, which could cause regulatory errors from outdated information.

Hazardous situation: Normative document updates are not detected after a source changes its publication format.

How we mitigate undetected source changes

Anomaly monitoring. The scraping infrastructure monitors for anomalous data patterns that may indicate a change in a source's publication format. Automated checks compare incoming data against the expected pattern for each source and flag deviations for manual review before updates are missed. Official sources can change at any time, so this cannot be prevented by design alone.
Backend alerts. Continuous backend monitoring escalates operational anomalies to the operations team through automated alerts.
User verification. Users are reminded that, despite automation, they should verify the correctness of outputs. If you notice a missed update, Report a problem or a bug.

Automated monitoring combined with operations review outweighs the residual risk of a missed update.
