Which languages are supported for my search?

Flinn supports searches across multiple languages, but the behavior depends on the module and database.

Safety Database Monitoring

Each database can be searched in one or more languages, shown below.

🇨🇭**\***SwissMedic: English results are only available when SwissMedic itself has published an English-language version of a document, so English coverage can be limited. Device, manufacturer, model, and lot number always match, no matter which language you search in.

⚠️ If you search using a language that isn't listed for a database, your search will still run, but it may return fewer or no results for that term.

Literature Evaluation

Use English query terms for most literature databases, including PubMed, Cochrane, and ICTRP.

Exception: AWMF uses German search terms instead. AWMF is a German guideline register, so English keywords may miss German-only guidelines unless the English term itself also appears in the record.

🗣️Translating a full-text paper

Flinn can translate Google Scholar papers into English for easier reading.

Validated translation is available for papers written in:

• Portuguese
• French
• Spanish
• Japanese

To translate a Google Scholar paper, click the Translate button in the bottom-right corner of the PDF viewer. Flinn will then translate the full paper into English.

This only translates the paper for reading. It does not translate your search query, so keywords you enter in a literature search are not automatically translated.

⚠️ If a paper is written in another language, you may still be able to translate it, but the translation may be less accurate. Use these translations with caution.
