🚀 Flinn.ai 3.8 — Smarter Setups, Sharper Searches
This release makes literature searches easier to set up, queries easier to build, and safety database results easier to filter — with a smoother, faster experience across Flinn.
- 🗂️ New Search Setup Experience In Clinical Literature, search settings such as title, assignees, and template selections now live in their own space, separate from the query (now called Data Sources). This prevents accidental re-runs of your entire search when you're only editing search details.
- 🎓 Google Scholar Hints When Google Scholar is selected, Flinn now checks your query against Google Scholar–specific syntax rules and flags known mistakes right in the query editor, so you catch errors before running the search.
- 🔣 Operator Dropdown for Query Building A new operator dropdown shows available values for selected operators, letting you insert values by selecting them instead of typing them out.
- 🏷️ Filter by Device Model Number In Safety Database Monitoring, Statistics now lets you filter by device model number — a field present in all FDA MAUDE results — making it far easier to narrow down or exclude irrelevant results.
- 🔧 UX & Performance Improvements Smaller touches that improve everyday usability, including a more powerful result-list search and a range of search performance fixes.
Enjoy the new improvements and a smoother workflow across Flinn.
📚 Clinical Literature
🗂️ New Search Setup Experience
Search settings and the query now live in separate spaces, so editing one no longer re-runs the other.
- Search settings — such as the search title, assignees, and template selections — now live in their own dedicated space, separate from the query
- The query itself is now its own space called Data Sources, covering your databases, date ranges, and search terms
- Editing search details like the title no longer triggers an accidental re-execution of the entire search, giving you a clearer and safer setup flow
🎓 Google Scholar Hints
- Whenever Google Scholar is selected as a database, Flinn now runs database-specific syntax checks directly in the query editor
- Hints highlight known, Google Scholar–specific mistakes as you build your query, so you can fix them before running the search
- Makes this complex database easier to work with and helps reduce errors
🔧 UX Improvements
- The result-list search now also searches within the abstract, in addition to title, author, and DOI
- Numerous search performance improvements across the module for a faster, smoother experience
- Operator Value Dropdown for Query Building: A new operator dropdown shows available values for several operators, letting you insert values by selecting them directly, instead of typing them out.
🛡️ Safety Database Monitoring
🏷️ Statistics: Filter by Device Model Number
- In Statistics, you can now filter by Device Model Number, a data point present in all FDA MAUDE results
- Adds to all existing filters, making it much easier to narrow down or exclude irrelevant results
🔧 UX Improvements
- The result-list search now also covers the event description and manufacturer narrative for FDA MAUDE results — not just the metadata shown in the list
- Swissmedic PDF translation now also works for German and French PDFs, in addition to English
🔍 Regulatory Monitoring
🔀 Move Documents Between Lists
Normative documents can now switch between the monitoring list and the informative list without losing any attached content.
- Use "Change document list" from a normative document’s view to move it between the monitoring and informative lists
- Uploaded PDFs stay accessible after a document is moved between lists
- Assigned labels and assignees are preserved when a document moves between lists
